Cicily Marsh’s incredible journey from Kenbridge, Virginia, to her current position as the Lead Behavior Support Specialist in Henderson, North Carolina, is a powerful example of commitment, compassion, and community involvement. As a proud alumna of Virginia State University (VSU), Cicily has made remarkable strides in her career and community service, earning her recognition as the 2025-2026 Alumna of the Year from the VSU Alumni Association (VSUAA).

A Foundation Built on Education

Cicily graduated from Virginia State University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. This degree equipped her with vital skills to understand and support the diverse needs of students, especially those facing behavioral and emotional challenges. For instance, during her time at Vance County Schools, she implemented interventions that improved student behavior by over 30%, significantly enhancing their academic performance.

Cicily goes beyond traditional teaching methods. She uses empathy and strategies that create a nurturing environment. Each day, she meets students with patience, ensuring that every child has the support necessary to thrive.

Recognized for Impact in Education

In 2022, Cicily was honored with the distinguished "You Make a Difference" Award from Vance County Schools. This recognition speaks volumes about her unwavering dedication to student success. The award underscores the vital role educators play in shaping future generations.

Cicily exemplifies the belief that every student has potential. She views behavioral challenges not as barriers but as opportunities for growth, inspiring both educators and families to foster resilience and determination among young learners.

Supporting Families in Need

Alongside her educational role, Cicily serves at Baskerville Funeral Home in Henderson, North Carolina, where she helps families navigate profound transitions. She offers guidance and emotional support during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Cicily co-facilitates monthly community workshops addressing pressing social and health issues, reaching over 100 residents each session. These workshops provide vital resources and knowledge, fostering community well-being and resilience.

Commitment to Community and Faith

Cicily is deeply committed to her faith and community service as an active member of Friendship Baptist Church in Kenbridge. Here, she showcases her leadership as Pastor's Aid President, Outreach Chairperson, and Treasurer of the Inspirational Choir.

These roles reflect her dedication to uplifting her church community. Cicily not only helps organize events but also mentors younger members, emphasizing the importance of service, compassion, and community connection, values that align with her professional mission.

Entrepreneurial Spirit with Mary Kay

In addition to her educational and community service roles, Cicily has embraced entrepreneurship as a Mary Kay Consultant for the past five years. She consistently achieved the Sapphire Star Tier for four years running and earned a place in the prestigious Princess Court of Sales.

Her work as a Mary Kay consultant is about more than sales; it empowers women to feel confident and beautiful. Cicily combines a personal touch with professional savvy, illustrating her ability to thrive across various domains.

Leadership in Alumni Relations

Cicily’s involvement with the Virginia State University Alumni Association (VSUAA) showcases her passion for her alma mater. As the founding President of the VSUAA Lunenburg County Alumni Chapter, she played a crucial role in promoting VSU’s legacy.

Currently, as the Vice President and Fundraising Chairperson for the Greater Triangle Area Chapter, the largest out-of-state chapter, she has led the group to win the title of 2024 Mega Chapter of the Year. Her leadership strengthens bonds among alumni and reflects her belief in community upliftment.

A Model for Future Generations

Cicily Marsh stands out as a prominent educator and community leader, serving as a role model for future generations. Her commitment to students, families, and her community embodies a spirit of service, demonstrating that one person can make a significant difference.

Being named the 2025-2026 VSUAA Alumna of the Year is not just a recognition of her accomplishments; it embodies the collective achievements of all those she influences. Cicily shows us that with determination and compassion, positive change is within reach.
