Join A Committee

Specifically, the membership committee:

​

• Facilitates the Battle of the Decades campaign to foster camaraderie and collegiality amongst members

• Houses the benevolence, awards. And social committees to expedite specific functions of the chapter which benefit the membership

• Expedites the Summer Social, Christmas/Winter Social, and Founders Day events

• Administers the various awards distributions of the chapter to include Longevity Award, Alumnus of the Year, and other awards

• Develops annual membership plan for the chapter to identify goals and strategies to be utilized in building and sustaining our membership

• Acknowledges the commendations and consolation activities of the members

• Engages the membership in activities for fellowship and support of the university teams and auxiliary organizations

The scholarship committee is a vital part of the fabric of the chapter as it is responsible for:

• Ensuring that the chapter fulfils its mission of providing financial assistance for students who have been admitted or are matriculating at Virginia State University;

• Recruiting new students for the university,

• Representing the university at college fairs and other recruitment events,

• Distributing university paraphernalia and memorabilia to local high schools, and

• Assisting with the transition of our scholarship recipients into the culture of the university. 

The Fundraising committee plays a significant role in the chapter's success as it is responsible for generating the necessary funds to support our initiatives and events. Without their hard work and dedication we wouldn't be able to achieve our goals and make positive impact in our community.

• Investigate and select products, services, and activities to raise funds for the chapter

• Organize, plan, and expedite respective events to meet the fundraising goals of the chapter

• Disseminate relevant information to the membership regarding the respective events

• Share the receipts from the respective events to the chapter

• Engage chapter members in the expedition of the respective activities

The Budget committee plays a key role in the chapter's operations as it is responsible for managing the financial resources. Their work ensures that the chapter's activities are adequately funded and that the resources are used efficiently.

• Develops the operating budget for the chapter

• Recommends spending priorities for the chapter

• Maintains accurate recording of expenditures and receipts of the chapter

• Ensures committee adherence to budget line items

• Reconciles bank statements with chapter records as needed

The Social Media committee plays a pivotal role in our chapter as it is responsible for managing our online presence and engaging with our audience. Their efforts help us to stay connected with our members and promote our mission to a wider audience.

• Ensuring that the chapter has a professional, aesthetically pleasing presence on all social media platforms

• Recording and disseminating chapter events and meeting webcast and webisodes

• Publicizing the respective events and activities of the chapter

• Creating fliers and other advertisements to publicize the events sponsored by the committee

• Publicizing honorifics, commendations, and celebratory events of chapter members

• Assembling, compiling, and distributing chapter newsletters

• Collecting and maintaining artifacts from chapter events in preparation of awards booklets

• Collaborating with fellow committee chairpersons to assist in the publicity of their respective events and activities

The bylaws committee plays a major role in our chapter by ensuring that our governing document is in line with generally accepted practices and the overall will of the chapter. Their responsibility is to field requests from members and revise or amend the bylaws to meet the evolving needs of our membership.
