“Higher education is the key essential way of navigating through life. Being granted the opportunity to attend college in this time of essence is still valued as a privilege, while some scholars post high-school choose other post secondary options. I trust that I am eligible to receive this scholarship to aid in my matriculation at VSU, with the hope to continue to lift barriers in my community and school life. The relief of financial worry and stress on my mother, who is a single parent, will support her efforts in supporting me in school. I appreciate this opportunity to express my need and gratitude to the individuals selecting the recipients for this award.”

“I feel like I should be awarded this award because I have had a battle trying to stay at VSU only because in the beginning the cost was a little high. I also would like to prove to my parents that I am capable of completing these 4 years of college while also maintaining a good GPA. I would also love to make them happy because they are who I look up to. I also have a point to prove to them that I can and will pass my classes and continue to make them proud. I have not always been the most successful in school and I would love to change that. Thank you for this opportunity to receive the scholarship.”

“As a first-generation college student, I came to Virginia State University in the Fall of 2023 as a sophomore. I’ve accomplished managing my GPA as well as participating in the many ensembles the music department offers. I started as a double major in Psychology and Music but made a critical decision to make sure I could graduate in 4 years with the highest standards I set for myself. I plan on returning and getting a B.S. in Psychology later on in life. As I make my way through college now, I plan on graduating and becoming a Music Teacher to inspire those around me the same way I was inspired.”

“I feel that my hard work on and off the field speaks for itself. I am a staple not just throughout my school but in my community as well. In everything in life, I always go 100%.I feel that this past year, I have been an ideal representative of this scholarship. I have shown up and participated in numerous events on behalf of the GTAC and represented myself as a deserving scholarship recipient.”

“Coming from the small town of Raeford, North Carolina, with its low population, I've had the privilege of experiencing the world through music, even reaching California. This journey has given me a deep understanding of what The Greater Triangle Area Chapter of North Carolina represents and its potential future. To fulfill my dreams and contribute to the Black music community, this scholarship would be invaluable. With it, I can continue to grow, share my experiences, and support the artistic development of others, ensuring that our cultural heritage thrives and inspires future generations.”

“I should be awarded this scholarship again because I am a strong example of what an HBCU student-athlete can achieve. My first year of college was challenging, but I earned a 4.0 GPA in my first semester and completed the year with a 3.7. Also, although it was a difficult season, I am proud that I helped establish VSU’s inaugural lacrosse team, leading the team in assists. Like last year, this award helped to alleviate some financial stress, allowing me to continue to focus on my academics while being an example of leadership and moral character to my peers.”

“I feel I should be awarded this scholarship because continuous learning is particularly important to me. I place high value on the pursuit of knowledge, personal growth, and self-improvement. Continuous learning opens your mind and help you to see things in a new light and helps you to the take the next step in life. It builds self-confidence and it allows you to become more efficient and dependable. Education plays a big part in my future goals and career. I aspire to be the next African American dentist. This field is underrepresented by black males. I am proud of my culture, and I want to make a lasting impact in my community. I want to aspire other young people to purse their dreams regardless of race, class, or geography. For this reason, I am excited about attending VSU. I plan to be a continuous learner so I can share my experiences and knowledge with others and inspire the next generation.”
